Warm afternoon light falls across oak kitchen cabinets, a limestone backsplash and a sink beneath a black-framed window overlooking a stone-walled garden.

Round Rock's Holiday Season Starts in a Ballpark Parking Lot. The Free Version Waits for December.

For nearly four weeks after Nov. 6, Round Rock's nightly holiday lights are behind a ticket booth in the Dell Diamond parking lot. Downtown's free lights don't come on until Dec. 1. Four days later, the city puts its biggest free festival, a downtown market and a theater opening into the same 48 hours.

The city's other November dates, a holiday bazaar and a Veterans Day ceremony, both happen in daylight. After dark, you have The Light Park. December brings the lights to Main Street, a free band every Wednesday, and two nights of balloons over Bright Lake.

November is The Light Park's month

The Light Park returns to the Dell Diamond lot at 3400 E. Palm Valley Blvd. from Nov. 6, 2026, through Jan. 3, 2027. The drive-thru first came to the ballpark for the 2024 holiday season, as the Round Rock Express announced that fall. One ticket covers the whole vehicle. The route has animated displays synced to holiday music, DJ Polar Ice, snacks for purchase, and pets are welcome.

The price depends on when you buy. As of mid-October 2026, the official checkout lists a presale vehicle ticket at $29.99, good for any night of the season. With fees and tax, the total comes to $36.27. Go Round Rock, the city's visitor site, lists online admission from $49 per vehicle and $60 at the gate. Its December calendar shows a range of $30 to $60. That's roughly a $30 spread for the same drive. Prices can change, so check the ticket page before you buy.

Regular hours are 5:30 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5:30 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Thanksgiving night runs until 11 p.m., as does every night from Dec. 18 through Dec. 26. Dec. 27 through Jan. 3 goes back to a 10 p.m. close.

Thanksgiving Day is when The Light Park's extra hour overlaps with the area's other big holiday table. Kalahari's Thanksgiving Celebration Buffet runs Nov. 26 from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Kilimanjaro Ballroom. It's $79 for adults and $29 for kids ages 3 to 10, plus a 25% taxable service charge and tax. If you book a seating that ends at 5, you can be in line at Dell Diamond when the gates open at 5:30.

November's other dates happen in daylight

Before December, the rest of the city's holiday-season calendar happens during the day, in different parts of town.

  • Nov. 11, 11 a.m. The Veterans Day Celebration takes place at the Lakeview Stage and Pavilion in Old Settlers Park. Three weeks later, that same stage hosts Light Up the Lake.
  • Nov. 14, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 22nd annual Rockin' Around the Holidays Bazaar fills Clay Madsen Recreation Center at 1600 Gattis School Road. Entry is free, and the city asks visitors to bring a canned-food donation or a box of colorful Band-Aids.

You can also shop downtown before the lights go up. According to Community Impact, Sweet Irene's Boutique scheduled its grand opening for Oct. 24 at 110 S. Lampasas St., Unit 4, with its first week of operation set to begin Oct. 26. For lunch on a shopping day, Arepitas reopened in late August at 910 Round Rock Ave. Its previous location had closed in November 2025.

Dec. 1 moves the season downtown, and it's free

Hometown Holiday runs Dec. 1 through Dec. 31. Every night from dusk, the historic downtown streets fill with lights, oversized ornaments and gift boxes, and lit archways, at no charge. It's the same idea as The Light Park, except you walk it, it's free, and it starts 25 days later.

The walk is also a little longer than last year's. The Griffith Building, the former library, opened as a civic space in January 2026. It houses the Round Rock Chamber, the visitors bureau and the Downtown Arts Gallery. A new pedestrian paseo runs beside it from Main Street at City Hall to the Round Rock Public Library. That means this is the first December with that path open.

Wednesday is the night to go. Music on Main puts a free band on Prete Main Street Plaza, 221 E. Main St., from 7 to 9 p.m. each Wednesday in December. The city's Arts and Culture office organizes it. Here's the lineup:

  1. Dec. 2: MicroBus
  2. Dec. 9: Fusion Band ATX
  3. Dec. 16: Agent Echo Band
  4. Dec. 23: The Clutch Kings

Those four Wednesdays are the season's best free nights out. You get a band, the downtown lights and a walk, with no ticket and no line of cars.

Dec. 4 and 5 pack in the most

The first Friday and Saturday of December have something on almost every hour. At Old Settlers Park, the city's Light Up the Lake runs two nights this year. It brings live music on the Lakeview Stage, giant balloons over Bright Lake, a light show, holiday displays, food, crafts and a yule log. The city calls it a walking event on sidewalks and grass, so wear the right shoes. Here's how the weekend lines up:

When What Where Cost
Fri., 6 p.m. onward Light Up the Lake, night one Old Settlers Park Free
Fri., 7 to 9 p.m. Every Christmas Story Ever Told, opening night Penfold Theatre, 2120 N. Mays St. $29 to $39
Sat., 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Round Rock Market Days Prete Main Street Plaza Free
Sat., 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Every Christmas Story Ever Told, matinee Penfold Theatre $29 to $39
Sat., until 10 p.m. Light Up the Lake, night two Old Settlers Park Free
Both nights, 5:30 p.m. on The Light Park Dell Diamond lot Per vehicle

The sports schedule adds to the crowd on Palm Valley Blvd. The Round Rock Multipurpose Complex hosts the Lonestar Soccer Club's Bat City Cup from Dec. 4 through Dec. 6. That brings tournament traffic to the same east side as Old Settlers Park and Dell Diamond. If your evening is downtown, Saturday is the easy day. Market Days at Prete Plaza is put on by Main Street Productions, ends at 4, and leaves time to head east after dark. Questions about Light Up the Lake go to the Parks and Recreation Department at 512-218-5540.

After the big weekend, December gets easier

If Dec. 4 and 5 are too crowded, everything that weekend offers except the festival itself is still around later in the month.

Penfold Theatre Company's run of Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some!) goes through Dec. 27, with no shows Dec. 24 or 25. Tickets are $29 to $39, and Thursdays are Pay-What-You-Can. Penfold's own page rates the show PG-13, which is worth knowing before you bring younger kids.

The weekend before Christmas has two free downtown mornings:

  • Dec. 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mainly Art sets up local artists in the Downtown Paseo next to the City Arts Center, 216 E. Main St. It's a good stop for gifts that didn't come from a big-box store.
  • Dec. 20, 9 a.m. to noon. The Round Rock Car Show, hosted by the Round Rock Police Department, fills Centennial Plaza at 301 W. Bagdad Ave.

After that, the season returns to Dell Diamond. From Dec. 18 through Dec. 26, The Light Park stays open until 11 p.m. every night, weeknights included. That's the most hours it offers all season, so the week of Christmas is a good time to use a presale ticket you bought in October. The downtown lights stay on through New Year's Eve, and the last drive through the ballpark lot is Jan. 3.
